Hogs and Wild Celebrate Mother's Day and Close Season Series
The Rockford IceHogs and Iowa Wild closed their 10-game season series and two-game Mother's Day Weekend set at BMO Harris Bank Center on Sunday with the Wild skating away with a 2-0 victory. The IceHogs wrapped up the season series with a 4-5-1-0 head-to-head record. The matchup was the first time the IceHogs have played on Mother’s Day since 2008 in Game 6 of their second-round Calder Cup Playoff series vs. Chicago (4-3 loss).
IceHogs Close 2021 Season With Three-Game Series vs. Wolves
For the IceHogs, today's showdown in Hoffman Estates begins a three-game set against the Wolves and the final three games of the 2021 season. After today, the Wolves will take on the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday in Michigan before wrapping up the season with a home-and-home sequence against the IceHogs on Friday and Saturday.
Winner, Winner!
The IceHogs are winners of their last two contests against the Wolves, earning a pair of 4-3 victories at BMO Harris Bank Center on Apr. 7 and Apr. 17 (shootout). IceHogs forward Brandon Pirri registered a hat trick against his former club and forward Josiah Slavin added two assists in the first victory and goaltender Ivan Nalimov made 23 saves and stopped both Wolves skaters in the shootout to highlight the second triumph.
Close Calls vs. Chicago
Five of the eight meetings so far in the head-to-head series between the IceHogs and the Wolves have been decided by a single goal. The IceHogs are 2-3-0-0 against the Wolves in one-goal games this season and 9-5-1-0 overall this year.
IceHogs and Wolves Light Up the Special Teams Scoreboard
Through eight games in the season series, the IceHogs and Wolves have combined for 15 power-play goals this season, the most between the IceHogs and any other opponent this season. Rockford is shooting at 20% on the man-advantage (7-for-35) against the Wolves while Chicago is 8-for-28 against the IceHogs (28.6%). Both teams have also struck shorthanded against each other, with Chris Wilkie adding a shorthanded goal at Chicago on Feb. 9 and Rem Pitlick
netting a shorthanded tally against the IceHogs in the same contest.
Cody Franson Cages the Wolves
IceHogs veteran defenseman Cody Franson leads the team with seven points (one goal, six assists) against the Wolves and has three assists against Chicago in his last four games played. Rookies Evan Barratt and Chris Wilkie
are close behind him, each with two goals and four assists for six points.
Not a Fan of Triphahn
Entering today's showdown, the IceHogs look to snap a three-game road winless skid against the Wolves at Triphahn Ice Arena. The IceHogs have only been held to one road win against their in-state rivals twice in their history (2013-14, 2016-17) and blanked during their inaugural AHL Season (0-3-2-0 at Chicago in 2007-08).
The Rockford IceHogs continue their three-game series against the Wolves and close the 2021 season with a home-and-home set on Friday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. at BMO Harris Bank Center and Saturday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Hoffman Estates.
