Hoffman Estates, IL – Forward Dylan McLaughlin opened the game scoring and Josiah Slavin netted his second goal of the season, but the Rockford IceHogs (6-12-1-0) fell to the Chicago Wolves (14-2-0-1) 4-2 at Triphahn Community Center Ice Arena Saturday night in Game 3 of four consecutive meetings against their in-state rival.
In a fast-moving first period, McLaughlin began the scoring off a Wolves turnover at 7:33, slipping a shot past the blocker of Wolves goalie Devin Cooley (W, 31 saves on 33 shots). Wolves forward Dominik Bokk responded for the home club at 13:38, blasting in his fifth goal of the season off the post and past IceHogs netminder Cale Morris (L, 31 saves on 34 shots).
Wolves forward David Cotton made it 2-1 early in the second period, banking a shot off the post at 4:27. After scoring his first professional goal in his professional debut last Sunday, Slavin picked up his second goal of the season at 13:44 to even the score. However, late in the period and on the power play, Wolves forward Tanner Jeannot sent his personal point streak to 11 contests with his ninth goal of the campaign at 19:17.
In the final frame, the Wolves locked down defensively and added an empty-net marker at 19:09 from Cole Smith to seal the 4-2 victory.
The IceHogs went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Wolves finished 1-for-1.
