Busdeker and Wilkie Grab AHL Firsts in Penalty-Filled Showdown with Wolves

Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Forward D.J. Busdeker buried his first AHL marker and forward Chris Wilkie added his first professional goal in his pro debut, but the Rockford IceHogs (0-2-0-0) fell to the Chicago Wolves (3-0-0-0) 5-2 at Triphahn Ice Arena Tuesday afternoon. The contest featured 63 combined penalties and 15 power plays.

Game Summary

The two sides came out physical in the opening moments before settling into their second game against each other in three days. IceHogs goaltender Scott Darling (L, 22 saves on 27 shots) was tested early and often and making key saves until a Seth Jarvis snapshot banked off his mask from the right faceoff circle and across the goal line at 15:59 for a 1-0 lead.

In the middle frame, the IceHogs picked up the physical play and forced the Wolves to take 26 minutes of penalties, setting up forward D.J. Busdeker’s first AHL tally on the man advantage at 13:55 to make it 1-1. The Wolves responded less than three minutes later with forward Philip Tomasino’s first pro goal at 16:10. Late in the period, Wolves forward Rem Pitlick picked up an IceHogs turnover while shorthanded and buried a breakaway marker at 18:10 to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The Wolves pulled away in the third period with Tomasino’s second of the afternoon at 8:35 and Pitlick’s second goal at 18:27. IceHogs forward Chris Wilkie broke up the two markers with his first professional goal while shorthanded at 10:44, banking a shot off the back of the leg of Wolves goalie Jeremy Helvig (W, 23 saves on 25 shots) at 10:44.

The IceHogs finished the contests 1-for-9 on the power play while the Wolves went 1-for-6.
