Rockford, IL – Forward Brandon Pirri recorded a hat trick and rookie Josiah Slavin added two assists to send the Rockford IceHogs (7-12-1-0) over the Chicago Wolves (14-3-0-1) 4-3 at BMO Harris Bank Center Wednesday evening to compete four consecutive meetings against each other.
For the third consecutive contest, the IceHogs opened the game scoring as forward MacKenzie Entwistle broke away down the left-wing boards and buried his third goal of the season past Wolves netminder Beck Warm (L, 13 saves on 17 shots) at 7:00. Less than a minute later, Pirri gave the IceHogs a 2-0 lead with his third goal of the season at 7:40.
Wolves forward Phil Tomasino pulled the contest within one at 4:07 of the second period, beating IceHogs netminder Matt Tomkins (W, 30 saves on 33 shots) with a one-time shot off the left-wing faceoff circle. Pirri reclaimed the two-goal IceHogs advantage at 7:53 smacking a rolling puck under the glove of Warm. He completed the hat trick moments later, driving in a bouncing puck at 14:50.
The Wolves turned up the pressure in the third period as forward Tanner Jeannot extended his goal-scoring streak to eight games with his 10th tally of the season at 3:53 and Dominik Bokk added a power-play marker at 8:07 to make it a one-score contest. The IceHogs locked down defensively and held off a late six-on-five Wolves attack to preserve the win.
The IceHogs went 0-for-4 on the power play while the Wolves finished 1-for-2.
