Defenseman to join team in Toronto

Toronto, Ont.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced on Saturday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have recalled defenseman J.C. Sawyer from the Gwinnett Gladiators (ECHL).

The stint will be the second of the season for Sawyer in Rockford. The 6-3, 200 pound defenseman has appeared in 14 games in 2008-09 with the IceHogs and has registered three goals and an assist with a plus/minus rating of -1.

Sawyer has splint time between the now defunct Fresno Falcons and Gwinnett after getting re-assigned to the ECHL on Dec. 9. In 12 games with Gwinnett Sawyer has chipped in a goal and four assists. The Saint John, New Brunswick native played in six games with Fresno accumulating a goal and two assists.

The second year pro will join the IceHogs on the road in Toronto as the team continues its season long seven game road swing.

Next Home Game: Friday, Feb. 13 vs. Peoria Rivermen. Rockford returns home at 7:30 p.m. The IceHogs come home after a 19 day hiatus to take on the Rivermen.
