Event geared to raise awareness for breast cancer research
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs will host “Pink In the Rink” Night on Friday as the team takes on the Peoria Rivermen at the Rockford MetroCentre.
The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
The night’s contest will feature a pink ice surface throughout the game. It is the first time in the 11-year history of the team that the MetroCentre ice has been dyed.
Additionally, several Rockford players will use pink tape on their sticks. Defensemen David Phillips and Jonathan Carlsson as well as forwards Rob Klinkhammer and Bryan Bickell have dyed their hair pink. Other players will be wearing pink wigs during the pre-game warm ups and will throw them into the stands.
$1 from every ticket sold for the game will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that raises awareness for breast cancer and funnels money to breast cancer research.
The first 1,000 women into the building will pick up a pink IceHogs T-shirt courtesy of Rock Valley Federal Credit Union, 13 WIFR and B103 FM.
For tickets, call the MetroCentre Box Office at (815) 968-5222 or visit metrocentre.com. You can also pick up tickets at the MetroCentre Box Office or at Hog Headquarters at CherryVale Mall.
A silent auction will be held on the upper concourse. Items for the auction include a “Blackhawks package” featuring a pink Blackhawks jersey, two tickets to an upcoming Blackhawks game at the United Center and a post-game pass to meet your favorite Blackhawks player. The auction also features one of Corey Crawford’s game-used goalie sticks signed by the IceHogs team.
There will also be a raffle for two pink IceHogs jerseys. All of the money from the auction and raffle will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
