1st 2nd 3rd Final
Friday, April 26

Des Moines, IA – Forward Chad Yetman earned his second assist in as many games and forward Mitch Fossier buried his third goal of the season in the second period, but the Iowa Wild (14-12-4-0) skated away with a 6-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs (11-15-1-0) at Wells Fargo Arena Friday night.

Wild defenseman Louie Belpedio opened the scoring at 13:54 of a highly physical first period, beating IceHogs goaltender Matt Tomkins (L, 36 saves on 42 shots) with a blast from the right-wing point for his second goal of the season.

Fossier reset the contest 2:08 into the second period, tapping in a crafty pass from Michal Teply past the pads of Wild goalie Hunter Jones (W, 26 saves on 27 shots). The Wild would respond with three goals over a span of 5:16 to pull away with a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Defenseman Turner Ottenbreit capitalized on a turnover at 12:30 to take the lead back for the Wild. Reigning AHL Most Valuable Player Gerry Mayhew spun off his ninth goal of the season and sixth against the IceHogs at 15:58 followed by Gabriel Dumont’s power-play goal at 17:46.

In the third period, the Wild added two more tallies to complete the game scoring. Belpedio added his second of the game on the man advantage at 13:26 and forward Will Bitten slipped in a last-game goal at 19:38. The IceHogs completed the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Wild went 2-for-5.
