METROCENTRE RENOVATIONS MOVING ALONG
Phase II project on schedule
Rockford, Ill.- As the calendar flips to August, we are one month closer to the start of the 2008-09 Rockford IceHogs season. It hasn’t been a quiet summer around the Rockford MetroCentre as the second and final phase of the building’s $20-million renovations continue to take shape.
In a tour led by Sjostrom’s Rick Cervantes, icehogs.com got an inside view of the MetroCentre’s new features. The renovations are taking place in the MetroCentre’s southwest corner and include a second entrance to the venue, a new spacious upper concourse and box office, and a luxury suite level featuring 10 new boxes.
According to Cervantes, the project is running right on time and even a little ahead of schedule in some areas. Last Friday, July 26 the new concrete floor was completed in the upper concourse, nearly a week before expected. Concrete is expected to be poured in the suite level in the coming weeks.
Patrons passing by the corner of Church and Chestnut Streets can now see the two levels taking shape and the new elevator shaft that is being erected. The stairs on the west side of the building remain in tact and will eventually be enclosed by glass atrium that will cover the entire entrance.
The new entrance and suite level will overlook the new Federal Courthouse that is currently under construction kiddie-corner from the MetroCentre.
