In conjunction with the Chicago Public School System, Blackhawks Team President John McDonough and Senior Vice President of Business Operations Jay Blunk will participate in the “Principal for a Day (PFAD)” program at The Nettelhorst School in Chicago. McDonough and Blunk, who are approaching their second anniversary of joining the Blackhawks, will arrive at 9:00 A.M., and assist with the morning announcements at 9:15 A.M. After that, both will be visiting different classrooms until 11:45 A.M.
This past September, the Blackhawks funded the construction of a brand new, state-of-the-art, fitness facility at the school. The facility includes an equipment donation made by Good Sports, a non-profit organization that strives to increase participation in sports and fitness programs for Chicago’s youth. Now in its second year, the Blackhawks and Nettelhorst partnership was founded on an initiative to reduce childhood obesity in public schools and continues to promote a positive learning environment with a focus on health and wellness. In addition to the fitness facility, the Blackhawks have also donated a significant number of books to the library that focus on sports, health and wellness.
The Nettelhorst School is a CPS (Chicago Public School) Magnet Cluster School and one of the first CPS Community Schools in Chicago. Principal for a Day (PFAD) allows businesses and organizations the opportunity to visit a school and shadow the principal to increase public awareness of the accomplishments and challenges at CPS. The goal of Principal for a Day is that all PFADs will continue to engage themselves, their companies, organizations or associations in continued involvement and support throughout the year at their school.
