ICEHOGS SET 111 TEAM RECORDS IN 2009-10
Rockford, Ill.- With the 2009-10 season in the books for the Rockford IceHogs, the team’s Communications Department has sifted through the statistics and have counted 111 new records set or matched by this year’s club.
Most records were good for the IceHogs while a few are dubious. Of the 111 new entries in the IceHogs record book, 77 of them occurred in the regular season and 34 happened in the postseason.
A goalie, and maybe not who you think, found himself in the record books 12 times in ’09-10. Rookie netminder Alec Richards set seven separate IceHogs AHL rookie goalie records and five IceHogs AHL individual game marks. Corey Crawford did set three team marks, including becoming the IceHogs all-time wins leader in the regular season (75 wins).
Richards wasn’t the only rookie to write his name in the Hogs record book in ’09-10. First-year defenseman Brian Connelly set a new IceHogs franchise record for points by a rookie blueliner (35) and new IceHogs single season AHL rookie marks for points, games and assists. Rookie defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin also set an IceHogs AHL rookie record with a plus/minus rating of +9.
The franchise set a new high-water mark for overall attendance (159,132) and average attendance (3,978). It was the third straight season in which the team set the overall attendance record.
The postseason didn’t feature too many positive records for the IceHogs. Once again though, rookies provided most of the positive records. Kyle Beach set or matched eight offensive marks and Connelly added six more. The team’s losing streak in the postseason, however, has reached 10 straight games.
