IceHogs Honor Cancer Community with Custom Sticks
Rockford, IL – The Rockford IceHogs host the Manitoba Moose this Friday night at 7 p.m. for Hockey Fights Cancer Night and two Rockford skaters have the honor of representing the team’s commitment to the cause by playing with custom purple CCM Hockey Fights Cancer sticks created specially for them. Forwards Brett Seney and Colton Dach set the plan in motion during training camp with Equipment Manager Tyler Carpenter.
“I went to a few of the guys and offered this up before the season as a really special opportunity. Both immediately agreed and I got the sticks made and ready to go", said Carpenter.
Seney says it’s an “honor” to pay tribute to everyone that’s been impacted by the disease. “Cancer has affected everyone and it’s a special night for a lot of reasons.”
Friday’s event inside the BMO Center is geared toward raising money for the Mercyhealth Development Foundation in support of Mercyhealth's cancer care. Fans can bid on unique player-signed Hockey Fights Cancer items, including novelty sticks, ties, and locker name plates through DASH and the IceHogs app.
“On a personal note, my grandfather passed away from it and my uncle fought back to overcome cancer", said Seney. "It still affects our family to this day.”
IceHogs fans will witness several special moments throughout the night, including filling out custom “I Fight For” signs that can be dedicated to someone who has been affected by cancer. Fans will be asked to stand and hold up their sign at a dedicated moment during the second period.
Dach says that Friday night’s events will put the game in an important perspective for him. “Playing hockey, there’s a lot on the line of course, but what really matters in life will be a bit more top of mind on Friday,” said Dach.
“I will be thinking about hockey, but I’ll also be thinking about the people that I’m playing for.”
