ICEHOGS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

Amer Cancer Partnership
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the American Hockey League and top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, announced a multi-faceted partnership between the two organizations for the 2011-12 season.

Beginning with an Opening Night fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 8, the IceHogs and the American Cancer Society will host three fundraising events that will benefit cancer patients and survivors in the Rockford community.

“We are pleased to partner with an organization that focuses their services specifically throughout the Rock River Valley,” said RAVE Executive Director Gordon Kaye. “The money raised through these events will directly benefit cancer survivors and their families in our home town.”

Any fan that purchases an IceHogs $10 promotional ticket for Opening Night through a “Making Strides” team will have $3 of their ticket go back to the team to help them reach their fundraising goals. The American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides” program focuses their fundraising initiatives on breast cancer prevention, treatment, patient services and research to find cures.

“Making Strides” teams are participating in a four-mile walk at Martin Park in Loves Park on Saturday, Oct. 15. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. and Opening Ceremonies start at 9 a.m. For more information, call (815) 229-2960 or email rockford.strides@cancer.org.

If you want to purchase a $10 ticket for the IceHogs home opener on Oct. 8 to benefit the “Making Strides” campaign, contact Travis Gortman at (815) 847-6385 or email him at gortmant@icehogs.com.

In addition to the Opening Night fundraiser, “Making Strides” will be the beneficiary of the IceHogs 3rd Annual “Pink In The Rink Night” in January. For a third straight season, the IceHogs will play a game on pink ice and through a jersey auction and silent auction, the team will raise funds for “Making Strides”.

Last season’s “Pink In The Rink Night” raised over $25,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.

The third fundraising event that the IceHogs will host for the American Cancer Society will coincide with the organizations “Relay for Life”. Relay for Life Night will take place in either late March or early April and will help teams participating in “Relay for Life” raise money for their team.

Dates and times for Pink in the Rink Night and Relay for Life Night will be announced at a later date.
