In conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, the Chicago Blackhawks will help start Mayor Daley’s Bike to Work Rally and Media Challenge at the United Center on Friday, June 19 at 7:30 A.M.
Blackhawks ambassador and Hall-of-Famer Denis Savard will start the race while Tommy Hawk, the team’s mascot, and the Ice Crew will be in attendance throughout the morning and afternoon. The Blackhawks Bluesmobile will “race” the bikers to the finish line at Daley Plaza.
“The entire Blackhawks organization is proud to assist Mayor Daley’s biking initiative,” Blackhawks Senior Vice President of Business Operations Jay Blunk said. “We are extremely grateful of the support the Mayor and his office gave us during our recent playoff run and are happy to help with this cause.”
The Bike to Work Rally and the Media Challenge are a highlight of Bike Chicago 2009, a five-month program from May to September by the Mayor’s Office of Special Events. The media challenge begins at the United Center on Friday morning and concludes at Daley Plaza at approximately 8:00 A.M. Morning activities conclude around 9:00 A.M., while live music and activities continue on the Plaza until 7:00 P.M.
