Excerpts From Joel Quenneville's Post-Game Press Conference (1/11/09)
On his team’s effort tonight: “It was a better all-around effort tonight. We had a much better start. With a tight game on the line from start to finish, we had to keep doing the little things right to win it. Khabby made some key saves in the third period to preserve the win.”
On the Hawks’ goaltending: “I think both goalies have been very good for us this season. It’s been one of our strengths. We lost two games going in to this game tonight where they gave us a chance to win.”
On the team’s daunting schedule lately: “It was five games in eight nights and it was a dangerous game for us after the long trip. I liked the response we had. We’ve still got a busy schedule before the All-Star break. We’ve got to take it one day at a time.”
On how his team responded to adversity: “It was a good test. When you’ve lost four out of six it gets your attention. We were asked earlier this year ‘what’s it like with no adversity?’ I said ‘don’t worry – it’s going to be here.’ It’s something we can learn from. I like the approach in the locker room going into the game and taking care of the details as the game progressed.”
On breaking Nashville’s streak of 23-straight penalty kills: “It was a nice shot by Buff [to break it], but we had some high-quality chances tonight and last night. They really did disrupt us having entries and having puck possession and doing what we like to do. They kept us on the run the whole time and they worked well as a PK unit. That was a critical score that we had on the power play, but it wasn’t our best night. We lost some momentum in the game with our power play tonight.”
