ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford IceHogs defenseman Andrew Campbell became just the 74th player in the AHL’s 82-year history to skate in 700 career AHL games when he took the ice as a starter tonight for the Hogs and Tucson Roadrunners tonight at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Campbell, 31, is the first player this season in the AHL to reach the 700-game milestone. Only four skaters hit 700 career games during the 2017-18 campaign, and Campbell is now the first to accomplish the feat since Chris Bourque, Bracken Kearns, Tom Kostopoulos and Brett Sutter last year.

The Caledonia, Ontario native has skated with Manchester (2008-14), Portland (2014-15), Toronto (2015-17), Tucson (2017-18) and Rockford (2018-19) during his 11-year AHL career. He has served as captain or alternate captain of each of those five teams, including wearing the “C” with Manchester, Toronto and Tucson. This year, Campbell was also elected the playing captain for the Western Conference at the 2019 AHL All-Star Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts on Jan. 27-28. He is the IceHogs’ first player in team history to serve as captain at an AHL All-Star Game.

Overall, Campbell has totaled 145 points (36g, 109a), 604 penalty minutes and a +96 plus/minus rating through his 699 career AHL games prior to tonight’s contest. He currently ranks 74th all-time in AHL history in games played, 28th in all-time games played by a defenseman and 10th in career plus/minus.

The blueliner was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the third round (74th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft. He was acquired by the Blackhawks this offseason from the Arizona Coyotes.
