Background/Event Information:
Now in its 13th consecutive year, “Girls in the Game” is a nationally recognized five-week sports and leadership summer camp program that combines day and overnight experiences for a diverse group of 120 girls. The camp includes structured physical activity and interactive workshops that cover topics of health education, leadership development and life skills. Over the course of the five weeks, campers are introduced to 30 traditional and non-traditional sports and fitness activities, including street hockey, tennis, golf, flag football, yoga, pilates, dance, strength training and more. In addition to field trips and meeting with professional athletes and teams, other activities include health classes each day that cover topics such as healthy eating, hygiene, the dangers of smoking and healthy relationships. Since its inception in 1995, Girls in the Game has provided year-round programming to over 15,000 girls ages seven to 18 from diverse ethnic, economic and geographic backgrounds.
