Conference Finals will likely get underway this weekend

Rockford, Ill.- The Chicago Blackhawks will be watching closely tonight to see whether the Detroit Red Wings or Anaheim Ducks will emerge victorious from their Game 7 battle in Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.

The Ducks forced a final showdown with the 11-time Stanley Cup champion Red Wings with a 2-1 win in Game 6. It is one of three Game 7s in the Conference Semifinals in the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Pittsburgh Penguins eliminated the Washington Capitals by a 6-2 score on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
The Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes clash at 7 p.m. tonight in Boston. The Chicago Blackhawks eliminated the Vancouver Canucks in Game 6 of their series on Monday.
The Hurricanes roster features’ winger Sergei Samsonov, who played two games with the IceHogs in 2007-08, scoring one goal on 12 shots. He was picked up by Carolin on re-entry waivers on Jan. 8, 2008.
The Ducks will bring with them to Detroit defenseman James Wisniewski, who served a conditioning assignment with the Rockford IceHogs in the middle of December 2008 when recovering from an injury. He was traded from Chicago to Anaheim on March 4, 2009 with Petri Kontiola for center Samuel Pahlsson and Logan Stephenson.
