Houston appears in second Conference Finals in seven years
Rockford, Ill.- The Houston Aeros will represent the West Division in the final four teams of the 2009 Calder Cup Finals after they eliminated the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday in Game 7 of the West Division Finals at the Bradley Center.
The Aeros will head up to Winnipeg, Manitoba to face the Manitoba Moose in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Friday. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
Manitoba swept the Grand Rapids Griffins out of the postseason in four games to advance and have been waiting for more than eight days to learn who they would play next. The Moose are carrying former IceHogs Greg Rallo and Derek Nesbitt on their roster. Nesbitt is scoreless in one postseason game, while Rallo has two goals in 10 games.
After being the last team in the Conference to earn a postseason berth, the Aeros have eliminated the top two seeds in the West Division to earn their first Conference Finals appearance since 2003, when they beat the Hamilton Bulldogs in the Calder Cup Finals.
On the other side of the standings board, Martin St. Pierre and the Providence Bruins eliminated the Worcester Sharks in Game 6 of the Atlantic Division Finals on Wednesday. St. Pierre is tied for second in the league in scoring with 13 points (5g-8a) in 11 games.
In the Eastern Conference Finals, the P-Bruins now face the Hershey Bears, who knocked out Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in seven games in the East Division Finals. The first game gets underway at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Giant Center in Hersey, Penn.
