To honor the region's rich manufacturing history, and the uniqueness of Rockford's “Screw City” nickname, the Rockford IceHogs adopted the Screw City IceHogs moniker as an "alternate identity" that includes a unique logo and jersey that pays homage to Rockford’s deep history of manufacturing screws, while staying true to the IceHogs’ core brand. Over the last four seasons, the IceHogs have worn four different specialty Screw City jerseys for select games each season. On April 10, 2026, for the final home game of the 2025-26 season, the team debuted new white Screw City jerseys that the team will wear as its alternate jersey for several games during the 2026-27 season.
Screw City Jerseys By Season
The OG (2022-23)
The original Screw City IceHogs sweater made its debut on Dec. 9, 2022. The team wore the jerseys again on Feb. 11, 2023, and April 8, 2023. The player-worn jerseys were then auctioned off after the April 8, 2023, game for the team's annual live jersey auction.
The Industrial Gray (2023-24)
A slight alteration to the Screw City jersey design for year two brought in an industrial gray color as the focal point while otherwise keeping a similar look and feel to the original Screw City sweater. The IceHogs donned the jerseys on Oct. 27, 2023, Dec. 27, 2023, and April 13, 2024.
The Blacks (2024-25 & 2025-26)
Opening Night. October 12, 2024. The IceHogs skated out for pregame warmups in their home white jerseys. Business as usual. Lights out. Time for player introductions. In front of a capacity crowd, the Hogs reemerged from the tunnel rocking the new Screw City black jerseys with the Screw City "R" on the crest. Audible gasps were followed by a mass exodus of fans beelining to the team store to get their hands on one. A legendary sweater was born.
The "Stormtrooper" Whites (2026-27)
After a second full season of wearing the black Screw City sweaters as the team's alternate jersey, the IceHogs shocked the home crowd once again for the home finale on April 10, 2026. After skating out in their home whites for pregame warmups, a quick change was made in the locker room and the Hogs came roaring back out for intros in the new Screw City whites. Fans were quick to dub them the "Stormtrooper" jerseys and the jerseys again sold out in record time that night in the team store. The IceHogs will wear the Screw City whites as their alternate jersey for several games in the 2026-27 season!
Rockford, Ill. - The "Screw City"
Rockford is known by many nicknames - one of the most interesting being “Screw City.”
As the demand for fasteners rose along with the demand for war time machinery, and due to the region’s production and manufacturing capabilities, Rockford began to be heavily supported through U.S. Government contracts from the First World War all the way through the Cold War. By the 1940’s, Rockford became known as the “Screw Capital of the World” and by the 1960’s the city was ranked as the fifth largest manufacturer of fasteners in the nation. Manufacturing remains a vital part of the Rockford economy to this day.
