Recap web 11 25

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Brett Sterling snapped home the game-winning goal at 6:20 of the third period to put the Chicago Wolves past the Rockford IceHogs 4-3 at Allstate Arena Saturday night. The loss marks Rockford’s first regulation loss in five contests.

Chicago evened the season series against Rockford with the win, and snapped its eight-game winless streak.

The Wolves started the game with a bang, as Petteri Lindbohm leaked a shot through Rockford’s J.F. Berube for his first goal of the year eight minutes into the frame.

Tomas Jurco responded for Rockford just over two minutes later, floating a shot from the blue line that drifted over the glove of Chicago’s Kasimir Kaskisuo to even the scoreline.

The teams then traded goals again in the second period. Jason Garrison put the Wolves ahead with a blast off the post and into the back of the net. Four minutes later, Ville Pokka tallied the IceHogs’ first power-play goal in 34 attempts to knot the game at two apiece. The IceHogs were previously unsuccessful on the man-advantage in each of their last seven games.

In the third period, Matheson Iacopelli gave Rockford its first lead of the night with a snap shot past Kaskisuo four minutes into the final frame. However, Chicago evened the score just 45 seconds later with Stefan Matteau’s fourth goal of the year.

Sterling’s game-winner came two minutes later, and Kaskisuo held strong for the remaining 14 minutes to seal Chicago’s win. Kaskisuo stopped 30 pucks in the win, while Berube turned aside 34 at the other end for Rockford.
