Week 5 Recap:
The IceHogs fell in Grand Rapids in their fourth straight road game before returning home for contests with Charlotte and Ontario. Rockford blanked the Checkers on Lars Johansson’s first AHL shutout before dropping its first-ever meeting with the Ontario Reign on Sunday.
Bacon Bits:
-Mac Carruth set a Rockford season high for saves in a single game with 39 on Friday in Grand Rapids
-Netminder Lars Johansson recorded his first career AHL shutout Saturday over Charlotte
-The shutout was also the first of the season for the Hogs
-Johansson posted a shutout streak of 79:21 minutes over the weekend’s games
-Johansson leads the AHL in time on ice for a goalie with 614:41 minutes of action
-He also ranks fifth in the league in saves with 262 stops
-Brandon Mashinter recorded the first IceHogs hat trick of the season on Saturday night against the Checkers
-Mashinter’s first goal against Charlotte broke the IceHogs forwards scoreless streak which had spaned 274:54 minutes of action
-The score also snapped the IceHogs streak of 307:10 minutes without a lead
-Erik Gustafsson sits fourth in the AHL for shots by a defenseman with 42
-Mark McNeill leads the team in scoring with nine points and recorded his seventh assist on Mashinter’s second goal on Saturday
-Rockford is 4-2-0-0 at home at The BMO Harris Bank Center this season
-Rockford and the Ontario Reign met for their first-ever meeting on Sunday with Ontario the victor
-Sunday’s contest finished off the third “three-in-three” in the last four weeks
-The IceHogs will not have another set of three games in three days until January 5-8 when they play at Chicago, at Grand Rapids, and then face the Wolves at home
Week 5 Hot Hog:
Brandon Mashinter Left Wing (3GP, 3G, 3pts, +1, 8 SH, 2 PIM)
Forward Brandon Mashinter broke the IceHogs forwards scoreless streak with his first goal of the game Saturday. Mashinter wasn’t done as he potted two more, including an empty-netter with 1:01 remaining in regulation to complete the first hat trick of the season for the IceHogs. He was efficient shooting on Saturday with all three shots finding the back of the net. Mashinter’s offense provided three of the four goals over the weekend’s contests. He also racked up 2 penalty minutes and a +1 rating.
Upcoming Games:
Wednesday, November 16 at Iowa Wild: Game time is 7 p.m. The IceHogs (5-8-1-0) travel to Des Moines for a mid-week matchup with the Iowa Wild (5-8-0-1). Rockford is 0-0-1-0 this season against Iowa as it dropped its only meeting 2-1 in overtime on Nov. 6 in Iowa.
Saturday, November 19 vs. Texas Stars: Face-off is set for 7 p.m. The IceHogs (5-8-1-0) face the Texas Stars (7-5-1-0) in their first of four season meetings Saturday at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Rockford will also be hosting Stroll on State Night with the first 1,500 fans receiving a scarf courtesy of GoRockford.com.
Bud Light Monthly Monday Hog Talk At Vintage 501:
Bud Light Hog Talk’s third segment at Vintage 501 will be on Dec. 5 from 6-7 p.m. The third show will feature two IceHogs players, and head coach Ted Dent. Vintage 501 is located in downtown Rockford at 501 E. State St. Fans can join broadcaster Bob Mills and Kevin Peters from 6-7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month throughout the season as the duo chats with IceHogs players, coaches and front office members. For those unable to attend the show in-person, Monday’s show will be streaming live on WXRX.com. “Bud Light Hog Talk” will also be available on www.icehogs.com following the live show. Fans can access the podcast through the “Audio Highlights” link in the “Multimedia” menu.
