WEEK 4 RECAP - ICEHOGS EXTEND POINT STREAK TO SIX GAMES

Week 4 Recap:

After winning three-straight games in Week 3, Rockford stayed hot and extended its point streak to six games. After dropping a shootout to Charlotte on Tuesday, the IceHogs rebounded with consecutive shutouts over Iowa from both Michael Leighton and Mark Visentin. With his shutout, Leighton moved into sole possession of second place on the AHL’s all-time regular season shutout leaders list, and is four away from the all-time lead.

-Since starting the season 1-3-0-0, the IceHogs have won five of their last six contests and are currently riding a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-0-1)
-The six-game unbeaten streak is the longest since the IceHogs won six consecutive games from March 15-27, 2015
-Goaltender Michael Leighton earned his first shutout of the season on Friday versus Iowa
-The shutout is Leighton’s 42nd of his AHL career, moving him into sole possession of second place all-time and only trailing Johnny Bower (45) by three
-Leighton is unbeaten in regulation over his last five starts with a 1.55 goals against average and .938 save percentage
-Mark Visentin recorded his first victory and first shutout of the season on Sunday
-After missing all of the 2014-15 season due to injury, the win is his first since March 2, 2014
-Rockford’s back-to-back shutouts are the team’s first since they defeated Iowa 1-0 on Jan. 22, 2015 and Utica 3-0 two nights later
-The IceHogs have won six-straight games versus the Wild, dating back to Jan. 16, 2015
-Rockford only gave Iowa two power plays with a season-low six penalty minutes on Sunday
-The IceHogs have still been shorthanded (51) more than any other team in the AHL through their first 10 games
-After playing six of their last eight games on home ice, the IceHogs will play five of six on the road
-Garret Ross’ first period power-play goal on Sunday marked the first the IceHogs have scored on the road while on the man advantage
-Forward Tanner Kero (Oct. 29) and defenseman Erik Gustafsson (Oct. 30) made their NHL debuts in Week 4
-Five different IceHogs alumni have now made their NHL debuts in 2015-16 (Byron Froese, Gustafsson, Vince Hinostroza, Kero, Viktor Svedberg)
-Associate Coach Mark Osiecki was named the head coach of the 2015 U.S. Men’s Select Team that will compete at the 2015 Deutschland Cup from Nov. 6-8 in Augsburg, Germany

Hot Hog: Week 4

Michael Leighton Goaltender (2GP, 1-0-0-1, 48 SV/49SA)

Goaltender Michael Leighton is beginning to find his groove. The 34 year-old began the week by stopping 28 of the 29 chances he faced before being handed a 2-1 shootout loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday. On Friday, Leighton followed it up with his first shutout of the season and 42nd of his AHL career to move into sole possession of second place on the league’s all-time list. Rockford’s netminder is unbeaten over his last five starts and carries a 1.55 goals against average and .938 save percentage during that stretch.

Upcoming Games:
Friday, November 6 at Grand Rapids Griffins: Game starts at 6 p.m. The IceHogs take on their division rival in Grand Rapids for the first time this season. The Hogs look to avenge their Western Conference Semifinal loss to the Griffins.

Saturday, November 7 vs. Milwaukee Admirals: Face-off is at 7 p.m. The IceHogs will pay tribute to all armed service personnel with Military Appreciation Night when the Milwaukee Admirals come to town. The first 1,500 fans will receive bomber hats compliments of Pepsi.

Bud Light Hog Talk returns on Monday, November 30 at Vintage 501 from 6-7 p.m. Vintage 501 is located in downtown Rockford at 501 E. State St. Fans can join Bob Mills or Kyle Stuetzel from 6-7 p.m. on the last Monday of every month throughout the season as they chat with IceHogs players, coaches, and front office members. Take advantage of food and Bud Light specials at Vintage 501. The show will be re-aired on Tuesdays on WIFR’s “Justice Network” on 23.3 from 6-7 p.m.
