Week 1 Recap
The Rockford IceHogs Tenth Anniversary season began on Friday and the American Hockey League club started off with two wins in their first three games. Rockford split a home-and-home with the Quad City Flames before outlasting the Iowa Chops on Sunday. A pair of road games await the IceHogs in Week 2.

Bacon Bits:
-The Rockford and Quad City markets met for the 100th and 101st time all time over the weekend
-Aaron Johnson became the first IceHogs player to get recalled to the Chicago Blackhawks this season
-Through three games, Rockford has scored seven goals, all on the power play
-Of the seven goals scored, six have come from different goal scorers
-Petri Kontiola is the only multi-goal scorer for Rockford in the early season as he potted Rockford’s first two goals of 2008-09 on Friday night
-Tim Brent leads Rockford in overall scoring and he has four assists
-Rockford faced a league-high 27 penalty kills during Week 1, and killed off 25 of them
-In Rockford’s first three games, 11 different players registered a point
-Corey Crawford and Antti Niemi had a combined save percentage of .946 during Week 1
Antti Niemi made his North American debut over the weekend and the fourth year pro turned in two solid outings. In his debut on Saturday in Quad City, Niemi turned away 34 of 36 shots in Rockford’s 3-1 loss at Quad City. The Hogs then rewarded Niemi on Sunday for another stout performance as the goaltender made 27 saves and was named #1 Star in Rockford’s 2-1 win over Iowa.
Upcoming Games:
Friday, Oct. 17 at Iowa Chops. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. Rockford and Iowa engage in a rematch from Sunday’s 2-1 IceHogs victory at the MetroCentre. The game is the first of five in Des Moines at the Wells Fargo Arena between the two teams and second of 10 overall in 2008-09.
Saturday, Oct. 18 at Milwaukee Admirals. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The IceHogs brief two game road trip concludes at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The game is the Admirals home opener and the first of 10 contests between the West Division rivals on the seaosn.
