TWO FORMER ICEHOGS BATTLE FOR GOLD
Rockford, Ill.- Sweden and Canada face off in the Gold medal game at SOCHI 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Sunday Feb. 23 with a live puck drop of 4:00 p.m.
With Sweden in the finals, that leaves two former Rockford IceHogs to play for the gold medal. Team Sweden features forward Marcus Kruger and defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Kruger has skated in all five games with Sweden in their run for Gold where he has two shots on goals. Kruger played in 34 games with the Rockford IceHogs during the 2012-13 season putting up 22 points (8g-14a) and coming out with 24 PIMS.
Hjalmarsson skated in two seasons with the IceHogs, in 2007-08 he put up 13 points (4g-9a) in 47 games and in 2008-09 he played in 52 games scoring 18 points (2g-16a). Hjalmarsson has also played in all five games with the Swedish team and has three shots on goal.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Feb. 22 against the Milwaukee Admirals. The puck drops at 7 p.m. with the first 1,500 fans to the game will receive a 15th anniversary t-shirt courtesy of Toyota. Make sure to check out the new Mountain Dew Food Court now open behind section 124 on the main concourse. The food court has a Papa John’s pizza stand along with a gourmet burger joint.
