Hogs finish seven-game road swing 4-1-1-1

Milwaukee, Wis.- Hannu Toivonen has his groove back. The Rockford IceHogs goalie made 28 saves and helped the IceHogs shutout the Milwaukee Admirals 2-0 on Friday night at the Bradley Center. During Rockford’s season-long seven-game road swing, Toivonen had six decisions and went 4-0-1-1.

The shutout was his third of the season and the puckstopped even added his first assist of the season on the game-winning goal.

After two scoreless periods, Rockford struck midway through the third period. On their only power play, Rockford solved Mark Dekanich with a power play goal from Brian Connelly. After Milwaukee cleared a puck out, Toivonen set down the puck for Connelly who skated end-to-end and blasted his sixth goal over the shoulder of Dekanich at 12:49.

Igor Makarov would put the game out of reach when he dumped his eight goal of the season into the empty net at 19:39 to help Rockford finish off their road trip 4-1-1-1.

The IceHogs and Admirals skated to a scoreless first period on Friday. Rockford had six shots on Dekanich while Milwaukee fired eight in on Toivonen.

The second period was a similar story as both Toivonen and Dekanich turned away the opposition. Both teams chipped in 13 shots on goal in the frame and Milwaukee had the game’s first two power-play chances.

Those were the only power play chances Milwaukee would get and the Hogs skated away with their third victory of the season in the Bradley Center.
