Rockford picks up their second win in Milwaukee in 2010-11
Milwaukee, Wis.- It’s good to be the road team in the Rockford IceHogs-Milwaukee Admirals season series. Rockford topped Milwaukee 4-1 on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center and the road team has now won all four games in the season set.
Rockford notched the game’s first goal on Tuesday with a power-play marker. Mathis Olimb fired his fourth goal of the campaign over the shoulder of Mark Dekanich at 10:54 on a play set up by Brandon Pirri and Peter LeBlanc.
In the second period Milwaukee would tie the score at 8:24. Winger Dylan Hunter, recalled earlier in the day from ECHL Cincinnati, picked up a Teemu Laakso rebound and swiped in his first goal of the season past Hannu Toivonen.
Late in the frame, however, Rockford’s power play came through again to restore their lead. In transition, rookie winger Ben Smith picked up a Jeff Taffe pass on the right wing and he snapped his sixth goal of the season past Mark Dekanich at 18:49.
Evan Brophey extended the Rockford lead to 3-1 early in the third. Brophey picked up a Smith rebound and beat Dekanich shortside for his third goal of the campaign at 5:48.
Olimb iced the game for Rockford with an empty net goal set up by Kyle Beach at 17:41.
Toivonen’s 22 saves earned him his sixth win of the season while Dekanich was tagged with the loss after turning away 21 Rockford shots.
Rockford’s special teams were solid going 2-5 on the power play and holding Milwaukee to 0-3 on the advantage.
