Rockford, Ill.- It was a different game, but the same result as the Rockford IceHogs knocked off the Texas Stars 3-1 at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Rockford put up eight goals against the Stars during their last meeting on Dec. 8, at the MetroCentre but three were good enough on Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, Kyle Beach gave the IceHogs a 1-0 lead to start the middle frame. Rob Klinkhammer found Beach streaking into the Texas zone and he ripped a shot past Bachman at 2:10.
Texas got the equalizer to open the final frame. Greg Rallo found Colton Sceviour and he fired one past Hannu Toivonen to make it 1-1 at 1:38. Maxime Fortunus also registered an assist on the play.
The Hogs answered right back and regained the lead as Jeremy Morin found the back of the net. Mathis Olimb sent a pass in front of the Texas net for Morin to chip in for his eighth goal of the season and give the IceHogs a 2-1 lead at 2:47 in the third period. Shawn Lalonde was also credited with a helper.
Then, Ryan Potulny sealed the game as he tacked on an empty-net goal with help from Jeff Taffe and Jassen Cullimore at 19:25.
Toivonen picked up his eighth win of the season turning away 29-of-30 chances. Bachman stopped 30 shots in a losing effort for Texas. Both power plays were ineffective as Rockford went 0-for-3 with the extra man and Texas failed on all six chances.
