TIGHT CONTEST SWAYS IN ADMIRALS DIRECTION
Hogs drop second in a row to Milwaukee
Milwaukee, Wis.-Apparently the Rockford IceHogs kryptonite is the Milwaukee Admirals. Rockford entered week six of the American Hockey League season with an eight game winning streak, but the Admirals have handed the Hogs back-to-back losses, including a 2-1 setback on Saturday in Milwaukee.
The IceHogs have now dropped eight straight to Milwaukee dating back to March 7, and three of the clubs four regulation losses in 2014-15 have come against the Ads.
Unlike their first two meetings with Milwaukee this season, Rockford claimed the first goal on Saturday. Seconds after a power play expired, T.J. Brennan spotted Teuvo Teravainen on the right face-off circle and the rookie beat Magnus Hellberg at 6:45 for his second goal of the season.
In the second frame, Milwaukee was able to tie the game after Rockford failed to clear the puck out of their zone. Anthony Bitetto crossed a pass to Garret Noonan and the rookie d-man beat Scott Darling at 16:32 for his second goal of the season.
Entering play on Saturday, Rockford's single game high for penalty minutes was 27. Through two periods of play, Rockford was whistled for 35 PIMs, including three fights.
The tight contest continued in the third period, but Milwaukee was able to break the 1-1 tie. Admirals defenseman Joe Piskula fired home his first goal of the season through traffic at 12:28 to put Milwaukee out front.
Rockford outshot the Admirals 29-21 in the contest, but Magnus Hellberg picked up his second win in as many days against Rockford after losing seven straight against the IceHogs.
Next Home Game: Sunday, Nov. 16 vs. Texas Stars at 4 p.m. The IceHogs round out their first three-in-three set of the season as they host the defending Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The game is officially sold out but those with tickets already can stay after the game’s conclusion to take the ice with their favorite players in another rendition of “Skate with the Hogs.”
