Vs Wolves Taffe
Rockford drops 3-2 decision in Chicago

Rosemont, Ill.-
Despite a solid first period, Rockford wasn’t able to overcome the Chicago Wolves at the Allstate Arena on Saturday, falling 3-2.

Tied 2-2 midway through the third period, Chicago would grab the lead with a power-play goal at 10:48. Defenseman Mike Siklenka fired a Darren Haydar centering pass past Alec Richards as he tried to get back between the posts for his second goal of the season.

Rockford had the potential game-tying goal waved off with less than 20-seconds remaining in regulation as the referee ruled that Rob Klinkhammer knocked the puck in with a hand pass.

The IceHogs tallied two first-period goals following successful penalty kills to grab a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Seconds after a Kyle Hagel penalty expired, Brandon Pirri finished off a Nick Leddy touch pass at 13:01 for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 Rockford lead.

Then after Rockford fought off a Garnet Exelby penalty, Leddy notched his first career AHL goal. The rookie defenseman picked up a Brian Connelly pass and blasted his first marker of the season past Peter Mannino at 17:08.

The second period belonged to Chicago as the Wolves netted a pair of goals of their own to tie the game at 2-2. Nigel Dawes finished off a text book two-on-one breakaway with Haydar at 13:21 to put Chicago on the board at 13:21 of the second period.

Again in transition, Jamie Sifers tied the game at 2-2. Alec Richards blocked down Jared Ross’ initial shot but Sifers beat Richards to the loose puck and knocked in his second goal of the season at 18:57.

Rockford was outshot in the contest 29-24 and Richards took the loss after making 26 saves. The IceHogs finished the contest 0-4 on the power play while the Wolves went 1-5.
