TANNER KERO NAMED CCM/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American Hockey League announced today that Rockford IceHogs center Tanner Kero has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 25, 2015.
Kero notched three goals and an assist along with a plus-5 rating in three games last week – all Rockford victories over Central Division opponents.
On Wednesday night vs. Iowa, Kero’s three-point night included his second two-goal game of the season, and was highlighted by netting the game-winning tally late in the third period to give the IceHogs a 3-2 victory over the Wild. Kero was scoreless in Friday’s 4-3 shootout win over Chicago, but came back with another goal on Saturday to help Rockford to a 4-2 win at Milwaukee.
A 23-year-old rookie from Hancock, Mich., Kero ranks third in the entire AHL with six goals and leads the IceHogs with eight points and a plus-7 rating through seven games this season. Kero spent four seasons at Michigan Tech and was named the WCHA’s player of the year and outstanding student-athlete of the year in 2014-15 before signing as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks. Kero made his pro debut with Rockford last spring, tallying five goals in six regular-season games and two goals and an assist in six Calder Cup Playoff matches.
In recognition of his achievement, Kero will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming IceHogs home game.
Next Home Game: Tuesday, Oct. 27 vs. Charlotte Checkers at 7 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Checkers to the BMO Harris Bank Center on another “Winning Weekday.” Every time the IceHogs win at home on a weekday, each fan in attendance will receive a free ticket to the next weekday game. Fans can also enjoy $2 beers, hot dogs, and companion tickets.
