ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they recalled forward Nick Schmaltz from the Rockford IceHogs.
Schmaltz, 20, has scored nine points (6g, 3a) in 12 games with the IceHogs since making his AHL debut on Dec. 7. The former No. 20 overall selection from the 2014 NHL Draft leads all Rockford skaters with six goals since his debut, and is currently riding a season-high four-game point streak (2g, 2a) dating to Jan. 6.
The Verona, Wisc. native began the 2016-17 season with four points (1g, 3a) in 26 games at the NHL level with the Blackhawks. He made his professional debut on Oct. 12 vs. St. Louis, netted his first career NHL goal on Oct. 15 vs. Nashville and last skated with Chicago on Dec. 3.
Prior to joining the professional ranks, Schmaltz produced 72 points (16g, 56a) in 75 games at the University of North Dakota from 2014-16. He led the Fighting Hawks to an NCAA championship and also helped Team USA to a bronze medal finish at the 2016 World Junior Championships.
