Rockford, IL - The Rockford IceHogs opened the 2025-26 regular season with a 3-2 win against the Milwaukee Admirals in overtime. Samuel Savoie scored the game-winning goal at 1:38 of the extra period.

The Admirals came out of the gate peppering Rockford goaltender Drew Commesso who was forced to make 15 saves in the opening period. Brett Seney opened the scoring with the teams skating 4-on-4 at 13:49. Defenseman Kevin Korchinski snapped a pass across the zone for Seney to one-time past Milwaukee's Matt Murray.

Connor Mylymok introduced himself to the BMO faithful, dropping the mitts with Kyle Marino with four minutes to go in the 1st. Milwaukee responded moments later at 16:12 when Jordan Osterle's wrist shot snuck through traffic in the slot.

In the 2nd period, both Commesso and Murray kept the score tied at 1-1. Rockford earned its first man-advantage of the game, but couldn't convert on the initial power play of the season.

With 13 minutes remaining in the game, Milwaukee rookie Joey Willis broke into the offensive down the near wing and deked to his backhand to shovel in his professional goal and give the Ads a 2-1 lead.

Rockford fought back pulling the goaltender for the extra attacker in the final two minutes of regulation. Aidan Thompson's point shot was deflected in the high slot by Jackson Cates to force overtime.

In the extra frame, it was Savoie who snapped his game-winning shot from the high slot under Murray's glove to give Rockford the two points.

Next up, the IceHogs hit the road to take on the Iowa Wild on Sunday, Oct. 12. The puck drops at the Casey's Center at 5:00 p.m. Rockford is back home on Friday, Oct. 17 with a 7:00 p.m. start hosting the Texas Stars. It's a $2 Beer and a Screw City Night at the BMO Center with tickets available at https://icehogs.com/tickets.
