IceHogs’ magic number stands at five with five games left

Week 26 Recap
The Rockford IceHogs beat the Peoria Rivermen on Friday but could not complete the weekend sweep, falling to the Chicago Wolves on Saturday. The season-long, seven-game home stand comes to an end in Week 27 when the IceHogs welcome in the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday and Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday to close out the home portion of the regular season. With just two wins in the team’s final five games, Rockford can clinch their third straight Calder Cup playoff berth.

Bacon Bits:
-The IceHogs ended their home losing streak at two games on Friday with a win over Peoria

-Rockford has not lost three games in a row since Oct. 30- Nov. 1

-The squad is 20-6-0-1 when following a regulation loss in 2009-10

-Mark Cullen’s three-assist game on Friday marked the 14th time that an IceHogs skater had recorded three points in a single contest

-The IceHogs have not had a player with four points in a game since Pascal Pelletier had two goals and two assists on Feb. 27, 2009 in Houston

-Defenseman Shawn Lalonde recorded his first professional goal and point on Friday in his third pro tilt

-Pete MacArthur attempted Rockford’s third penalty shot of the season on Saturday, a no goal against Chicago goalie Drew MacIntyre

-Matt Keith recorded his 20th goal of the season on Friday, becoming the third IceHogs skater in 2009-10 with 20 or more goals

-Rockford has a goal differential of -11 in the second period in 2009-10 but outscored Peoria 3-0 in the middle frame on Friday

-The IceHogs posted their fifth sell out of the season on Saturday, welcoming 6,122 fans into the building

-The 11th Annual Jersey Auction raised $29,865 for the IceHogs Charitable Foundation and its beneficiaries on Saturday

-AHL All-Star Jack Skille’s game-worn jersey fetched the highest amount, bringing in $2,100

Hot Hog Week 26:
Center Mark Cullen returned to the ice on Friday after missing 18 games with an upper body injury. The veteran pivot made an immediate impact with three assists in the game to move him back into the top spot on the team in points. It was his fourth three-point game and 14th multi-point contest of the season. Cullen has recorded 17 goals and 31 assists for 48 points in 57 games for Rockford in 2009-10.

Upcoming Games:
Friday, April 2 vs. Lake Erie Monsters: Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs finish off their North Division slate, welcoming the Lake Erie Monsters into the Rockford MetroCentre. The first 1,500 kids 14-and-under will get an IceHogs youth hockey stick courtesy of McDonald’s and 97 ZOK. The first 1,500 fans to pass through the gate will also get a 2009-10 Team Photo.

Saturday, April 3 vs. Milwaukee Admirals:
The Rockford IceHogs host the Milwaukee Admirals in their final regular season home game of the 2009-10 campaign. The first 2,500 fans will get an IceHogs beach towel courtesy of BOB FM and WIFR. The game also marks the return of Super Fan Cameron Hughes and one fan will have a chance to win $10,000 through the Golden Goal promotion if the IceHogs score with 9:10 left on the clock in the third period.

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all of the IceHogs regular-and post-season games on the Hogs’ flagship radio station Rockford’s Voice, WNTA-AM 1330 and 30 regular season games on ESPN Radio 1380-AM, WTJK. Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with AHL Live! Visit the IceHogs Web site (icehogs.com) and click on the “click here to watch the AHL Live” icon, and for just $7 you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer. Also, fans with Comcast Cable television in Rockford can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season. Join the IceHogs at Hooters of Rockford near State and Perryville for Bud Light Hog Talk. Fans can watch WXRX’s Jim Stone from 6-7 p.m. as he chats with defenseman Shawn Lalonde, goalie Hannu Toivonen and assistant coach Ted Dent.
