ROCKFORD SNAPS COLD SPELL IN MILWAUKEE
Five goal scorers lead Hogs to win
Milwaukee, Wis.- Offense had been an offensive word around the Rockford IceHogs over the past two weeks. Rockford shook out of an offensive slump and broke a six-game winless streak as they knocked off the Milwaukee Admirals 5-2 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee in a rare Saturday matinee.
Milwaukee notched the game’s first marker just 51-seconds into the contest. Andreas Thuresson deflected a Cody Franson blast over the shoulder of IceHogs goalie Corey Crawford to put the Admirals on top 1-0.
Rockford countered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead. Rookie forward Nathan Davis chipped in his third goal of the season at 7:21 to tie the game. Pete MacArthur picked up his first point in an IceHogs uniform with an assist. Tim Hambly also chipped in a helper on the goal.
Rob Klinkhammer then gave Rockford a 2-1 lead at 11:57. Winger Evan Brophey tipped a pass away in the Milwaukee zone right to Klinkhammer who shelved it over the shoulder of Drew MacIntyre from the high slot for his third goal of the season.
In the second period the Admirals tied the contest at 2-2 when Triston Grant beat Crawford for his first of the season, set up by Nick Spaling.
Two early third period goals gave Rockford a 4-2 lead. Rookie winger Mike Radja tipped in his first career AHL goal at 2:28 of the frame off of a Niklas Hjalmarsson blast to put Rockford up 3-2. Later in the frame, while on the power play, Jack Skille one-timed his third goal of the season past MacIntyre off of a Tim Brent feed at 6:29.
The IceHogs sealed the game late in the third when Petri Kontiola blasted a Jack Skille pass past MacIntyre to make it 5-2.
Rockford outshot the Admirals 32-31 and Crawford earned the win making 29 saves. The IceHogs went 1-5 on the power play while holding the Admirals to 0-7.
