ROCKFORD REWIND: ANDREW SHAW
Rockford, Ill.- Just two years ago, Andrew Shaw was getting ready for his first professional season under an American Hockey League contract with the Rockford IceHogs.
After getting drafted in June 2011 by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round (#139 overall), Shaw signed an AHL contract with the IceHogs less than two months later. Now he has first round draft picks inspired to model their game after him.
An agitator on the ice, Shaw has played in 66 games with the IceHogs between stints in Chicago where he has 85 NHL games under his belt. Not bad for a fifth round pick from two seasons ago who didn’t even get an NHL contract until four months into his pro career (Jan. 3, 2012).
Shaw played a pivotal role in Chicago’s recent Stanley Cup championship run. Already established as a pest in the NHL, Shaw tallied 5g-4a in 23 Stanley Cup playoff games in 2013. After getting struck under his right eye with a puck earlier in Game 6 of the Finals, Shaw’s photo with him hoisting the Stanley Cup later that night could go down as one of the epic Stanley Cup pictures.
