Hogs fall in Milwaukee 3-2

Milwaukee, Wisc.- Third period leads have been pretty automatic for the Rockford IceHogs this season. The Hogs took an early third period lead against the Milwaukee Admirals but were outworked the rest of the way and fell 3-2 at the Bradley Center on Saturday.

Milwaukee grabbed the 1-0 lead in the opening frame while on a 5-on-3 power play. Winger Rich Peverley picked up a rebound from an Alexander Sulzer blast and flipped it past Wade Flaherty at 17:43 for his 14th goal of the season.

Rockford got the goal back in the second frame, however, as Troy Brouwer knocked in his league leading 20th power-play goal of the campaign and 29th overall.

Winger Petri Kontiola tried to wrap a pass behind the Milwaukee Admirals goal but it hit the referee and deflected in front. With Milwaukee goalie Pekka Rinne committed to the pass, Brouwer tapped in the goal 57 seconds into the period to tie the score at 1-1. Martin St. Pierre also assisted on the tally.

Defenseman Jerramie Domish gave Rockford the lead in the third, but it was short lived. Domish knocked in his own rebound for his second goal of the season at 1:16.

Milwaukee responded with Jason Guerriero marker at 7:38. Peverley found Guerriero on the weak side the winger buried his eighth goal of the season at 7:38.

The game winner was then scored at 10:59 when Andreas Thuresson flipped in his eighth marker of the season off of a Kevin Ulanski feed.

Rockford could generate enough pressure back in the Milwaukee zone the rest of the way and the Admirals held on for the win. Rockford finished with 20 shots and Rinne picked up his league leading 30th win. Flaherty stopped 24 in the loss.

Next Home Game: Sunday, March 9 vs. Iowa Stars. Game time is set for 4:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Stars drop the puck for the second time in Rockford and fifth time overall. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick up IceHogs Poster #5 from Pepsi, MedicineMan and Johnson Press.
