IceHogs snag two of three in Week 8, climb back to .500

Week 9 Recap
Consistency has been an issue for the Rockford IceHogs in 2009-10, but the team is beginning to find its stride taking points in four of their last five games and reaching the .500 mark for the first time in a month in the process. Rockford hopes the hot stretch carries over into Week 10 as four games in five nights looms for the IceHogs beginning Wednesday against Chicago.

Bacon Bits:

-Rockford won back-to-back games for the first time this weekend since Oct. 16 and 17

-That was also the last time Rockford put together back-to-back contests in which they scored four or more goals before doing it on Friday (four goals) and Saturday (five goals)

-Rockford is back to the .500 mark (11-11-2-1) for the first time since 10/30/09

-Winger Jack Skille has assists in four straight games totaling four helpers and also chipping in a goal dating back to 11/21/09

-Alec Richards picked up his first career AHL win on Friday in Grand Rapids

-Every player in the IceHogs lineup on Saturday recorded a positive plus/minus rating

-As a team Rockford recorded a season high plus/minus rating of +25 on Saturday in their 5-1 win over Abbotsford

-Defenseman Daryl Boyle continues to lead Rockford in plus/minus with a +10

-The IceHogs finished November with a 6-5-1-1 record

-Evan Brophey played in his 180th career game with the IceHogs on Saturday, tying him with Bruce Watson for third most games played in Hogs history

-The IceHogs have played just two shootouts in 25 games this season

-Entering this season, the IceHogs averaged a shootout every 8.4 games during its AHL era

-Mark Cullen is tied for sixth in the AHL with 10 goals

Hot Hog Week 9:
Winger Kyle Greentree recorded a point in all three games during Week 9 for the IceHogs. Greentree broke out of a personal eight-game goal scoring drought on Wednesday, notching Rockford’s only marker against Manitoba. The winger then came back on Friday and notched his second goal of the week before chipping in two assists against his former team, Abbotsford, on Saturday.
Upcoming Games:
Wednesday, Dec. 2 vs. Chicago Wolves: The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Golden Goal is back! If the IceHogs score with 9:10 left on the clock in the third period, someone in the building will win $10,000. Beer will also be $2 at select concession stands throughout the arena. High school and college students can pick up the best available seat after 6 p.m. for just $10 thanks to WXRX’s Student Rush program.

Friday, Dec. 4 at Grand Rapids Griffins: The game starts at 6 p.m. Rockford returns to Grand Rapids where they handed the Griffins just their second loss at home on the season a week prior. The game is the second of eight on the campaign between the two clubs and second of four at the Van Andel Arena.

Saturday, Dec. 5 vs. Lake Erie Monsters: Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. A quick turnaround for Rockford has them back on home ice against Lake Erie for the first time this season. Saturday is the IceHogs Annual Teddy Bear Toss for charity. Fans are invited to bring new stuffed animals to the game and after the IceHogs score their first goal, fans can toss the stuffed animals onto the ice. Also, the first 2,500 fans to the game will receive an IceHogs Jersey Bag from Rockford Orthopedic, BOB FM and 23 WIFR.

Sunday, Dec. 6 vs. Manitoba Moose: The game will begin at 4:05 p.m. The IceHogs complete their second four games in five night stretch against the Moose. Sunday is another Family Four Pack game which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks and four popcorns for just $44. All students with a valid student ID can also receive the best seat in the house for just $10 with the WXRX Student Rush.

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all of the IceHogs regular and post-season games on the Hogs flagship radio station Rockford’s Voice, WNTA-AM 1330 and 30 regular season games on ESPN Radio 1380-AM, WTJK. Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with AHL Live! Visit the IceHogs Web site (icehogs.com) and click on the “click here to watch the AHL Live” icon, and for just $7, you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer. Also, fans with Comcast Cable television can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season. The broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 30 minutes before the puck drops. Join WXRX’s Jim Stone from 6-7 p.m. tonight at Cousin’s Bar and Grill as he chats with IceHogs Head Coach Bill Peters along with defenseman Mike Brennan and forward Jack Skille. Cousin’s is located on the corner of East State St. and Perryville in Rockford, and take advantage of some great food and Bud Light specials.
