Flaherty solid in net as Hogs keep pace in playoff race

Week 23 Recap
The playoff push is here, and IceHogs goalie Wade Flaherty has been there and done that. Flaherty came up big during Week 23 to help Rockford keep pace in the wild West Divison. Flaherty turned away 103 of 111 shots faced over three games to help lead Rockford to a 2-1-0-0 record. The Hogs now hit the road for a pair of contests in Houston against the red-hot Aeros.

Jack Skille netted his first career hat trick on Sunday against Iowa

-The three goal performance was the first this season by an IceHogs player

-Before the hat trick, Rockford had a player score twice in a game 19 times

-Beginning on Monday, Rockford will only play two games over the next 11 days, both in Houston against the Aeros

-IceHogs Head Coach Mike Haviland won his 300th career game on Sunday against Iowa

-Winger Mike Blunden appeared in his 100th career game on Sunday against Iowa

-Rockford had a streak of five straight games with a power play goal snapped on Sunday against the Stars after going 0-for-4 on the advantage

-Rockford was out-shot 111-81 in its three games during Week 23, but went 2-1-0-0

-Goalie Wade Flaherty played in all three games and turned away 103 of the 111 shots faced (.927)

-With his win on Sunday, Flaherty now has 297 career wins in the pro ranks including 134 victories in the AHL

-Rockford’s 4-3 overtime win over Iowa on Sunday marked the clubs’ first overtime win at home this season

-Rockford hadn’t played an overtime or shootout game since Feb. 15 against Quad City

Hot Hog Week 23:
For the second straight week a rookie came up big for the IceHogs. During Week 23 Jack Skille accumulated 3g-2a-5pts and most of the damage was done on Sunday. Skille netted his first career hat trick against Iowa on Sunday including netting the overtime game winner. The Madison, Wis. native also chipped in an assist on Saturday in Milwaukee.

Upcoming Games:
Thursday, March 13 at Houston Aeros. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs hit the road for a brief two-game road trip in Houston against the surging Aeros. The game is the second of the campaign at the Toyota Center for Rockford.

Saturday, March 15 at Houston Aeros. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. Rockford and Houston conclude their six-game season series when they meet at the Toyota Center in Houston. The game is the back-end of two straight between the West Division foes.
