Saturday Concerts Also Featured in Weekends in the Park
Rockford, lll. – The Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment (RAVE) Authority today revealed the details of this summer’s happenings at Davis Park that include activities for all ages and interests. The 2012 season of Weekends in the Park presented by SwedishAmerican Health System includes free family-oriented movies every Friday night, as well as concerts on select Saturdays throughout the summer.
Friday Night Flix presented by Xfinity
The third annual Friday Night Flix, presented by Xfinity, will feature large screen movies that the entire family can enjoy. Movies will begin at sundown on the North lawn of Davis Park.
“The Friday Night Flix series gets bigger and better every year. We have a strong track record of holding safe and quality movie nights that all families can enjoy,” said RAVE Board Chairman Mike Dunn. “In our movie selection process, we really listened to the valuable feedback and recommendations from our fans and took that into account. We have a great line up of the latest hit movies as well as family classics. We also have great community partners like Cumulus Broadcasting’s 97ZOK who are helping to build additional excitement around Friday Night Flix.”
The BMO Harris Bank Center arena floor will again be the backup location in the case of rain or inclement weather. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring lawn chairs if the movie is indoors since the padded turf is not available this year.
The 2012 season of Friday Night Flix presented by Xfinity will premiere on June 8. Visitors are welcome to come to Davis Park as early as 7 p.m. and movies will begin at dusk. The movie line-up for the 2012 season is as follows:
June 8 – The Muppets
June 15 – Ratatouille
June 22 – Hop
June 29 – Dr. Doolittle
July 6 – Shrek the Third
July 13 – Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
July 20 – Transformers
July 27 – Miracle
August 3 – Up
August 10 – The Incredibles
August 17 – The Wizard of Oz
August 24 – The Lorax
Select nights will also feature related programming prior to the movie to entertain families and children. The programming will take place on the South lawn of Davis Park. Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park petting zoo will be in Davis Park on June 29 before the showing of Dr. Doolittle. Back by popular demand is the Rockford Fire Department night on August 10 for The Incredibles. The Rockford Fire Department will be out in force in Davis Park to hold a variety of fun activities for the kids by promoting fire safety and showing off some firefighting equipment.
VIP and private chalet rentals are also available every night of Friday Night Flix. The chalets offer catering for company outings and private parties. Contact the BMO Harris Bank Center at 815-968-5600 for additional information on chalet rentals.
New this Year
To continue improving the quality experience at Friday Night Flix, RAVE has listened to customer feedback and made some small adjustments to the events. This year, attendees will receive a ticket for free popcorn when they enter the park to help minimize lines and wait time for food. Also, to ensure all attendees have a great view of the screen, there will be blanket-only and chair-only segments designated in the park. Screen clarity will also be enhanced by the upgraded projector RAVE is using this year.
Friday Night Flix is also expanding outside Davis Park for a special evening. Through its partnership with the Rockford Park District, RAVE has coordinated a movie showing at Magic Waters on Monday, June 18. Attendees will be able to watch Ratatouille while wading or floating in the Wave Pool.
Saturday Concerts in the Park
RAVE will also host several Saturday concerts on the South Lawn of Davis Park this summer. The first outdoor summer concert kicks off with Country Throwdown on June 23 at 4 p.m. The concert features headliner Gary Allan and recording artists Josh Thompson, Eric Paslay and Sunny Sweeny, as well as special guest Rodney Atkins.
On August 14, Peter Frampton’s Grin & Bear It tour will stop in Davis Park. Tickets for the Saturday concerts are available through the BMO Harris Bank Center Box Office, 815-968-5222 or www.thebmoharrisbankcenter.com. Additional concert announcements will be announced in coming weeks.
