PROSPECT CAMP PROFILE: TERRY BROADHURST

Rockford, Ill.- The young guns are standing out this year at the Blackhawks Prospect Camp. One of those rising stars is Terry Broadhurst. The forward from Orland Park, Ill. looked confident and assertive at the camp on Tuesday.

Growing up less than 45 minutes from the United Center, he had an opportunity most would envy; access to view professional hockey in his “backyard”. Broadhurst is now one step closer to playing for his hometown team.

The Hawks signed Broadhurst to a two-year entry level contract on March 19, 2012. The chance to play for a professional hockey team in Rockford or Chicago is a dream of a lifetime. The fact that his family and friends can watch him play and grow as a hockey player because of his close proximity to home is a major plus.

Most hockey players have to venture across country or around the world to chase the dream of playing for a professional hockey team and Broadhurst’s chance to play for the hometown team is a blessing to say the least.

The 5’11” 162 lb forward may not be the large offensive forward, but the IceHogs and Blackhawks know his superb special teams play will come in handy during the grind of a regular season and possibly a postseason.

“I know the power play was a concern last season in Rockford and if you can get the power play going you can win hockey games, especially late down the season” said Broadhurst. “If I get the opportunity to be there, I’ll bring my offensive instincts and abilities. My offensive instincts and abilities have always gotten me to the next level. I have always been able to find the open man and make the play.”

His seven power-play goals were sixth most in the WCHA and led the University of Nebraska-Omaha in that category in 2011-12.

Overall in the 2011-12 season with the Mavericks, Broadhurst played 30 games and compiled 30 points (11g-19a) with a +14 on the plus/minus sheet. He signed an ATO (Amateur Try-Out) with Rockford on March 20^th following his junior campaign and compiled two points (2a) in eight games for the Hogs.

During his freshman year, he recorded 24 points (13g-11a) in 42 games. His sophomore year was substantial with 36 points (16g-20a) in 38 games.

For only playing in eight games last season for the IceHogs, Head Coach Ted Dent had nothing but praise for Broadhurst’s will to play. “He has got a taste of pro hockey being in Rockford at the end of the year. It’s a matter of getting a good summer training and coming in with a lot of confidence” said Dent.
