Chicago grabs 2-0 series Finals lead

Rosemont, Ill.- It should come to no surprise to Rockford IceHogs fans that the Chicago Wolves power play continues to carry them through the Calder Cup Playoffs. After Chicago’s 4-2 win in Game 2 of the Calder Cup Finals over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Wolves are just two wins from their second Calder Cup Championship.

The Wolves went 2-5 on the power play in Sunday’s win and that was a game after going 2-5 in the series’ opening contest, a 5-4 win over the Penguins. After lighting Rockford up on the power play in the West Division Finals (29.5%), the Wolves did the same to the Toronto Marlies in the Western Conference Finals (24.4%) in five games.

Overall, Chicago is an AHL playoff best 24.4% (31-127) on the power play in the postseason.

The Calder Cup Finals now shifts to Wilkes-Barre for Game 3, 4 and 5 if necessary. Game 3 is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. If Chicago earns a win in Game 3, they can clinch the AHL’s top prize in Game 4 on Friday. Game 5 would be Saturday.

Fans can watch all of the Calder Cup Finals on the NHL Network. Check your local listings for details. The games can also be viewed on-line through www.B2livetv.com for just $7.
