Rockford, Ill.- A packed Rockford MetroCentre for Pink in the Rink Night on Saturday and a full bowling alley on Sunday at Cherry Bowl helped the IceHogs Charitable Foundation raise over $30,000 over the weekend.

The Rockford IceHogs hosted the second annual Pink in the Rink Night on Saturday in front of 6,267 fans, the largest crowd of the season and fourth largest in the IceHogs AHL era. The Hogs donned special white and pink jerseys that were raffled and auctioned off.

Combined with other silent auction items, the IceHogs Pink in the Rink Night raised $27,203. All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit breast cancer awareness and research, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Mary Kay Foundation, SwedishAmerican Hospital and Healing Pathways Cancer Resource Center.

On Sunday the IceHogs hosted their second annual bowl-a-thon at Cherry Bowl. The entire team bowled with IceHogs fans at the event and helped raise $5,377 for the Sydney Ives Foundation.

The bowling event was sponsored by Rockford First, Lincoln Wood Baptist, Custom Iron Works Inc., Papa Murphy’s, Hospice Care of America, Morning Star Village, Acamard Technologies, Tyson and Billy Architects, WTVO and FOX 39.

In 2009-10 the IceHogs and IceHogs Charitable Foundation raised $110,953.60 for local and national non-profit causes and organizations.

Additionally, IceHogs players, coaches, staff and mascot, Hammy Hog, made 174 visits to the community, including stops at several Rockford area schools, hospitals and youth hockey practices.
