Demolition has begun on arena’s southwest corner

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford MetroCentre, home of the Rockford IceHogs, continues its $21-million face lift as the second phase of the building’s renovation has begun. The southeast corner of the arena is under-going construction in phase II. renovation_indoor260508.jpg

A new entrance to the MetroCentre is being constructed on the corner of Church and Chestnut Streets. along with a new Box Office, women’s restrooms and two new elevators. The entrance isn’t expected to be officially completed until the end of the calendar year.

The new suite level is expected to be completed in time for the IceHogs 2008-09 season opener in October. The suite level will also be located in the southeast corner of renovation_outdoor160508.jpg
the MetroCentre. From the inside of the MetroCentre,
preparation work has begun in anticipation of the new
suite level.

Overall, the new suite level will feature 10 additional suites with a capacity range of 25-50 fans per suite. When the suite renovations are complete, the MetroCentre will contain 11 total suites.

Each suite will have a television, refrigerator, cabinets, soft seating in addition to fixed seating. Suite holders will also have access to the private suite level and an outdoor patio located just off of the suite level.

In addition to the new entrance and suite level, the MetroCentre is also gaining a new catering kitchen for Centreplate and a new vestibule to aid in energy savings.
