PELLETIER'S OFFENSIVE OUTBURST EARNS HIM PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Winger is the first Rockford skater to earn honor this season
Rockford, Ill.- The American Hockey League announced on Monday that Rockford IceHogs winger Pascal Pelletier was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2008-09 regular season. Pelletier is the first IceHogs player to earn the award this season and the second skater to get in Rockford’s AHL era.
Pelletier began his week with a record setting game. On Wednesday, the Labrador City, N.L. native tallied an IceHogs single game AHL record four goals against the San Antonio Rampage. Pelletier notched the game’s first three goals for a natural hat trick in the first period alone. Rockford would go on to beat the Rampage 6-1.
The winger continued his goal scoring binge on Friday night in Peoria to help Rockford come back from two-two goal deficits and earn a shootout point against the Rivermen. Pelletier then completed Week 8 with a goal and an assist in Rockford’s 5-2 win over Peoria in Rockford on Saturday night. He finished the week with six goals, an assist and a plus/minus rating of +5.
Overall this season, Pelletier is pacing the IceHogs with 13 goals through 21 games and ranks second on the club with 21 points. Pelletier is also currently riding a four-game goal scoring streak, matching an IceHogs AHL best accomplished last season by former IceHogs winger Kris Versteeg.
Next Home Game: Thursday, Dec. 11 vs. Iowa Chops: Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Rockford IceHogs return from a brief weekend road swing to face the Iowa Chops for the third time in 2008-09 and the first of three meetings in December. Harlem Globetrotters tickets will be given away throughout the night and MembersAlliance Credit Union will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary.
