Toronto, ON - The IceHogs completed a weekend sweep over the Toronto Marlies inside Coca-Cola Coliseum Sunday evening, 3-0.

It was a quiet start to the game for both sides. Dillon Boucher attempted to fire up the Rockford bench halfway through the 1st, dropping the gloves and getting into a fight with Toronto's Michael Pezzetta, which sent them both to the penalty box. Despite the IceHogs' physicality and outshooting the Marlies 9-2, the score was gridlocked 0-0 going into the 2nd.

With 7:32 remaining in the 2nd period, Gavin Hayes controlled the puck on the right-side boards and set up Jiri Felcman with a well-placed pass as he was coasting by his defender. Felcman made a backhanded attempt at Marlies' goaltender Artur Akhtyamov. Akhtyamov stopped some, but not all, of the shot, and the puck dribbled into the net to give the IceHogs a 1-0 lead. It didn't take long for the IceHogs to strike again.

Just over two minutes later, with Toronto's Hayes Hundley off the ice for holding, the IceHogs power play got to work. Derrick Pouliot walked down the blue line and lasered a shot on goal that bounced off Akhtyamov; Gavin Hayes was set up in perfect position to knock in the rebound and scored. The IceHogs brought a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Rockford power play didn't stop there. With an early opportunity in the 3rd, the puck found Dominic Toninato at the point, whose powerful shot was deflected in by Nick Lardis for the IceHogs' third goal of the game.  The IceHogs would hold the 3-goal lead and walk out of Toronto with a 3-0 win.

Drew Commesso enjoyed a perfect 16/16 night in goal, for his first win of the season.

Rockford is back home against the Manitoba Moose on Friday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. It's a $3 Beer Night and Pink in the Rink Night benefiting Mercyhealth Foundation to support Mercyhealth Cancer Institute. Tickets are available at icehogs.com.
