Rockford, Ill. – The Grand Rapids Griffins (42-18-1-4) erupted for four goals and goalie Eddie Pasquale stopped each of his 37 shots as the Griffins blanked the Rockford IceHogs (22-33-9-3), 4-0, in font of a sellout crowd of 6,035 on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Ben Street lit the lamp at 3:36 in the first period for what proved to be the game-winner. Martin Frk, Mike Borkowski and Kyle Criscuolo also each tallied goals in the win, and Tyler Bertuzzi finished with a two-assist evening.
Just prior to Street’s opening goal, IceHogs left wing Brandon Mashinter sent a puck on net that appeared to have given Rockford an early 1-0 lead. However, the goal was waved off on a goaltender inference call against the Hogs.
The IceHogs continued to pound the net, tallying double-digit shots in all three periods. Pasquale ultimately capped his shutout with 13 saves in the final frame.
