NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME HAS ICEHOGS TIES

Frozen Four image
Saturday’s NCAA Frozen Four National Championship game between the University of Wisconsin Badgers and the Boston College Eagles has some close ties to the Rockford IceHogs.

The game marks a rematch of the 2006 NCAA National Championship game when the Badgers slipped by the Eagles 2-1 at Milwaukee’s Bradley Center. Current IceHogs Jake Dowell and Jack Skille hoisted the championship trophy that night, while defenseman Mike Brennan watched as his Eagles came up one goal short. Plus, Boston College’s Ben Smith is Chicago Blackhawks draft pick (sixth round, #169 overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft).

Brennan would eventually get his National Championship two years later when Boston College knocked off Notre Dame 4-1 in Denver.

With the teams matching up once again, icehogs.com caught up with all three skaters on Friday morning, in anticipation of Saturday title game in Detroit.
