MORIN, LEDDY NAMED TO THE U.S. WORLD JR. TEAM

USA Hockey announced its 22-player roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship and IceHogs winger Jeremy Morin and defenseman Nick Leddy both made the team.

The tournament, held in Buffalo, NY, will begin on Sunday, Dec. 26. Team USA opens play against Finland at 7 p.m. (CT) at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena.

The 19-year-old duo is the first two active IceHogs players to participate in the World Jr. Championships. The U.S. team is the defending tournament champions and Morin is one of eight players who skated on last year’s gold medal winning squad.

Morin has 11 points (7g-4a) in 19 games with Rockford in 2010-11. The Auburn, NY native has also played in nine games with the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) and has 2g-1a-3pts with the parent club. Last season, Morin chipped in five assists during Team USA’s championship run.

Leddy has 2g-8a-10pts in 22 games for the IceHogs this season. The Eden Prairie, Minn. native began his first pro campaign with the Blackhawks and appeared in six games in Chicago, chipping in a goal. Last season Leddy played at the University of Minnesota where he played in 30 games with the Gophers and had 3g-8a-11pts.

Morin and Leddy are two of four AHL skaters on Team USA, joining Jerry D’Amigo (Toronto Marlies) and Kyle Palmieri (Syracuse Crunch).
