Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej skated with Team USA in Vancouver Olympics

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs will be honoring Rockford native and Silver Medalist with the U.S. Women’s Hockey team, Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej, when the team takes on the Chicago Wolves on Saturday at the Rockford MetroCentre.

Zaugg-Siergiej will drop the first puck at 7:05 p.m. and sign autographs from 6-7 p.m. and during the first intermission in the new concourse area.

A forward on Team USA’s women’s hockey team during the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Vancouver, she began skating as a young child on a frozen lake behind her Caledonia home. She moved with her family from Rockford to Eagle River, Wis. when she was six years old. After high school, she played for the University of Wisconsin for four years (2004-08).

“I just wanted to come down and thank my family for the support they gave my Olympic journey,” Zaugg-Siergiej said. “This is significant to me to show my gratitude to my family and friends and the Rockford community.”

Zaugg-Siergiej still has many connections to the Rockford community including many friends and family members. Read more about her story on rrstar.com.

The game marks the IceHogs’ 11th annual Jersey Auction Night, where the IceHogs will honor the Phantom Regiment by wearing specially designed Drum & Bugle Hammy jerseys.

The first 2,500 fans will pick up a Drum & Bugle Hammy t-shirt courtesy of Pepsi, Dental Dimensions, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Phantom Regiment, WXRX and WREX.

A silent auction featuring American Hockey League and other hockey memorabilia will be set up in the upper concourse.
