Canada rolls HC Vitkovice Steel 7-1
Davos, Switzerland-Rockford IceHogs center Brett McLean tallied a first period goal in Team Canada’s 7-1 win over HC Vitkovice Steel in the first game of the 2011 Spengler Cup hockey tournament in Davos, Switzerland on Monday.
McLean scored on a deflection on a 5-on-3 power play 10:08 into the opening period to lead the Canadian’s route.
Former IceHogs Jordan Hendry and Pascal Pelletier are also skating for Team Canada in the tournament and both recorded assists in the win. Former Blackhawks goalie Marty Turco got the start for Canada and made 30 saves.
Team Canada resumes game action on Wednesday against the host team, HC Davos, at 1:15 p.m. The tournament concludes on Saturday.
The Spengler Cup, held annually since 1923, is the oldest professional international hockey tournament in the world.
